Jay Ferguson grew up in Omaha, graduating from Burke High School in 1977. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, completing a B.A. in Psychology and Political Science in 1982 with a minor in Business. He continued on at the UNL Law College, graduating in 1985 while working for the firm of Vestecka, Tegtmeier & Buethe. During that time, he married his wife, Karen, and later moved back to Omaha to open Ferguson Law Office in March 1986.
Since 1986, he has built his practice one satisfied client at a time. He has represented a wide range of clients from major Omaha businesses to single mothers, estranged fathers, estates, separating partners, adoptive parents, landlords, and small business owners.
Jay has lived in the mid-town, Country Club neighborhood of Omaha for over 30 years. He has three daughters. He has been actively involved in supporting his girls in their activities – Girl Scout cookie sales, the AWANA program at church, Central High Marching Band, swim teams, and more. The youngest, who is an accomplished swimmer, singer and the former Nebraska State President of DECA, is a student at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. His middle daughter graduated pre-med from college at Washington University in St. Louis, and is currently attending medical school at UNMC here in Omaha. His oldest daughter graduated from MIT with a Masters, married and is now living in Los Angeles, working at Spacex, after living in New York City and working at Goldman Sachs. Jay has been an active member of the PTA/PTO for 20 years and also served at different schools as treasurer multiple years. He was an active member of Dundee Presbyteriann Church for over 10 tears, and served on the Board of Trustees for six years. His family now worships at CrossPoint Bible Church.
Jay also enjoys time away from the office, keeping busy with a number of hobbies. He is a 30 year member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors here in Omaha, serving on its Board of Directors. He also enjoys remodeling, framing several homes for Habitat for Humanity, and has rental properties as well. He enjoys travel, and has taken some exciting motorcycle trips through the United States and the United Kingdom. Jay's camera appears attached to his arm, as he is an avid photographer – whether it be swim meets, school performances, family gatherings, or traveling with the family.
